Wayfinding. Margaret Olley Gallery Case Study
The goals of this brief was to create an identity for a Margaret Olley Gallery opening in Sydney’s Barangaroo. A symbol suite and wayfinding signage was also to be created. It was important that the symbols and signage could be understood by all different groups of people nationally and internationally.
The logo was created using a script font to add a personalised touch as well as a sans serif font to balance it out. The symbols were created with simplicity in mind to visually represent where to find certain aspects in the gallery without having to understand our written language English. The intention of the wayfinding signage was that it was to be unique yet represent Margaret Olley’s beautiful work. A collage of Margaret Olley’s painted flowers was used with individual elements moving slowly in the background as though a slight breeze was moving them. This collage also allows for opportunities to be used elsewhere within the museums branding.
Overall, this was a great brief to accomplish as I had never completed wayfinding signage before, it allowed me to approach this brief in an analytical way while still being able to apply a creative twist to the final product.
